Blogging: Finding My Feet

by - 10:00

I started this blog quite a while ago, 2014 actually. I started it with the intention of getting my love for writing back, but also to have a place where I could possibly, potentially, get some help. As a small child, I adored writing, much as I loved reading. I remember re-reading the same Jacqueline Wilson books over and over again, and not only falling in love with the story, but each individual word. Thinking to myself, "wow, I want to do that one day."

I would sit for hours writing these terribly bad stories about friendships & family bonds, none of which I ever managed to finish, possibly due to the fact that 7 year old Caitlin didn't really understand that concept of planning. But somewhere along the line, I got distracted. Other girls didn't want to be writers, they wanted to be singers or actresses, so then eventually I did too (although I have no talent in those areas whatsoever!).

I forgot about writing and I became sidetracked with other dreams such as becoming a singer, or a nursery-nurse...I even wanted to run a dog hotel at one point (don't ask). But one day I realised that none of these things were what I wanted. I didn't want to be on TV or the radio and I most certainly didn't want to look after other people's kids for a living! What was I to do? I was stuck.

Then one day, after reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower & discovering other blogs, I remembered. I remembered those terrible stories that I had attempted to write, I remembered the way writing made me feel (even at such a young age), and I remembered my deep love for it. It all hit me a once. This was what I wanted.

I started my blog, this blog. And there have been many different versions to what you're seeing now but I think I'm finally getting there. I haven't blogged consistently and in the past I would've apologised, but I'm not going to now. I've needed time to re-discover my love for writing, fully, and discover where I want to take it.

I may not be the 'perfect blogger', I may not be the perfect writer, but I'm learning and most importantly, I'm enjoying it! I've finally got my blogger brain on, and I'll admit that I often find it tricky to switch it off! But I'm so excited to see where I can take my blog and what I've got planned for the future.

I never really do this, but I just want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who reads, comments, follows, subscribes to my newsletter, everything! Thank you for it all. On my very first post, I got 30 or so views and I was over the moon. It's safe to say that I get way more than that now, but it's still quite surreal to me. I don't get the most views, but it's still enough to blow my little mind, so thank you.

And hey, if this writing thing doesn't work out, perhaps I'll give that dog hotel idea another try!
